Q: Considering young people care more about speed and easy work, what do you think about the inheritance of the craft?
Mr. Chen: It is very important. In reality, everyone, either male or female, has the pressure in life. Unless you are supported by the family, you may not select art as your career. As the art market in Taiwan is relatively small, freshmen will have difficulty promoting their work. To survive, I will find a stable job first and polish my craft in my spare time.
Mr. Chen hopes to promote the brick carving DIY activity through social education. In addition to preservation, brick carving allows people to retain their own memory. Mr. Chen likes to share with both students and the public the fun of brick carving.
For 20~30 years, Mr. Chen has being given instructions and speeches in schools. The museum is a venue where people appreciate artwork and obtain knowledge.
